Naturality Web signs and billboards will exist in electronic virtual
space. Real signs need no longer clutter our visual landscape once
everyone has a suitable smartphone and this isn't far off as mobile
performance and price are accelerating past Moore's Law.
At the moment the natural behaviour for wanting to find where the exit
is at a train station is to look up and around to find the signs to the
exit but this will be changing with as the ANW develops. In a few years
it'll become natural behaviour to use a smartphone to find where the
nearest bank or restaurant.
As the technology develops it will be possible to walk into a
supermarket and know which shelf to find the vintage balsamic vinegar or
other obscure ingredients. Simple tasks like finding out where the
nearest toilet is will be a breeze as this sort of information finds its
way into the digital space of the Articulated Naturality Web.
Buildings need no longer have information available in the real world.
Cafe menus will be read off a smartphone screen. Assisted GPS systems
mean finding a board room in a skyscraper will be guided by the phone
alone. Even prime location billboard advertising may move to real estate
in the ANW because consumers will be using their phones to scan the
information only available in the ANW.
Consumer behaviour will change as they look more and more to their phone
to tell them what they need to know about their environment and what
information is relevant to their location. The phone is evolving to be
beyond communication alone. It's now an information device to access the
ANW, the world of virtual things that exist on top of the real world.
The evolution is akin to the steps between homo erectus and homo
sapiens. It's a very exciting time.
