Why did no one sue? How did doctors get away with it?
For one, the campaigning organisations - the well funded national ones - dropped the ball on this issue.
The people affected were old, dead or crazy. Often all three. Those people don't have a strong voice in modern society.
Their carers...well their carers wanted what the drugs did. That's why they were happier after the drugs were used. Their elders were docile and more pleasant. Some may have felt guilty as a result of the deaths and this would stymie any campaign ardour or anger.
Doctors? Fuck them. They did fuck all. They still keep using these drugs. They still keep using them on schizophrenics and kids and anyone else they want to make docile or gag.
They don't even bother to do the research into what most people want from the drugs. Not properly anyway. They're happy enough if its just making people docile and manageable and malleable. There's no specialised research into the value of antipsychotics for treating solely the delusions and hallucinations - the research that patients want and the public accept.
They don't give a shit that they're in breach of their fundamental oath the moment they started medication for behaviour. They are clearly harming when other options are better and truly to the word and spirit of their fundamental oath.
First do no harm. Or suck on my chocolate salty balls.
(The last bit I added. Just in case you didn't realise that I can have an inappropriate sense of humour and still write a good rant. The reference to my globules of brown savoury goodness is from South Park. Not that it makes it any more sane to a psychiatrist. Their mantra, after all, is be normal rather than first do no harm. The evidence of their tools should be their damnation but instead they got away with it and still do.)
