Ranting about something...oh yeah....what if the effect of antipsychiotics on delusions and halluciinations was a placebo response

Perhaps a small thing. There are no modern placebo controlled trials of antipsychotics. Amidst the plethora of studies there are a few which define the concept of dearth where no dose, low dose or medication postponement strategies are compared with treatment as usual for psychosis and first epsiode psychosis.

The drugs used to be known as major tranquilisers. The term has no reference to delusions and hallucinations. Antipsychotics is perhaps a marketing scam executed to perfection since the drugs weren't really inceieved to treat the internal delusions and hallucinations as most people seeking treatment would want.

They are chemical restraint and chemical behavioural change agents.

But people forgot. I need a few spliffs and half a bottle of wine before I link in to that collective memory. And a shit load of reading.

We forgot that these drugs don't heal. They just deal with social problems at the level of the individual. Those eldely people who were mad and cranky sisnt need to die and their illness was not treated, in any true medical sense.

They just died because we forgot. We let marketing change the word to not represent the concept held by patients and the public.

Antipsychotics aren't. And when you read far enough to understand treatment objectives maybe you'll see that its just a control system run by doctors and accept as ok.
