Dear friends,
Hope you are well.
This is an invitation on behalf of RawOrg (Rights and Wellbeing of Racialised Groups), an independent collection of service users, carers, campaigners, professionals and academics dedicated to ending racial inequality throughout the mental health system.
With the mental health strategy approaching its 1-year anniversary, RawOrg is holding a meeting of key stakeholders campaigning in the field of race and mental health. The idea is to bring people together to discuss what we need from the MH strategy to make it more relevant to BME communities, and to use this meeting to inform the development of proposals and specific asks that can be put to Department of Health as a way of improving the implementation of the strategy. This will be a sort of summit, from which we will produce a concrete set of proposals that we can put, as in effect RawOrg's position, on the strategy both in terms of its content and implementation.
The meeting will take place on 2nd November from 10 - 2 at the Mind offices in Stratford. Marcel Vige, from Diverse Minds, is organising the meeting for RawOrg. Please let Marcel know if you would like to attend (m.vige@mind.org.uk, 0208 215 2222). Marcel is also happy to discuss if you need any support with coming to the meeting (travel costs for example).
For those of you who have not heard of RawOrg, please also see attached an independent review of the DRE programme produced by RawOrg. The second page describes RawOrg and its position statement.
Hope to see you at the meeting.
Best regards,
Jayasree
