Am I the only one who thinks doctors shouldn't be killing the elderly?

I'm not talking about euthanasia. I'm talking about demenita.

Tens of thousands of the elderly were treated for the symptoms of dementia using the antipsychotic. They weren't psychotic in the sense that they were experiencing delusions and hallucinations. They were old people whose behaviour was a problem.

The drug doesn't treat Alzheimers. It does not regenerate brain matter. In fact it may damage the brain. The drug effects a change in behaviour which makes the person docile and quieted. It is called the chemical cosh for these reasons. Most of the pubkic don't know this is the intended effect of a drug which used to be called the major tranquiliser.

For several years GPs prescribed the chemical cosh to the elderly. Then a study came out. The study simply looked a life expectancy of those on and off antipsychotics. This was an observational study which showed the use of the drug reduced life expectancy by 50%. An average life expectancy of about 3 years was reduced to 1.5 years if I remember right.

That's right. 50 fucking percent.

The government acted. They got the Royal College of Psychiatry to write a report. The report stated 1,800 old people were killed unnecessarily by doctors using antipsychotics on organic brain illnesses which they were never designed to treat.

That's right. 1,800 dead old people. You know why? Society is so sick it no longer tolerates our elders degeneration before death. A normal behaviour became abnormal because it could be solved by a pill.

The pill did not heal the disease and it ended up killing thousands.

The governmet's dementia strategy was changed. The result is GPs are measured by how few antipsychotics they prescribe to gag the elderly. The use of the cosh on the elderly wasn't banned. Neither was physical restraints which, of course, are equally inhumane but visibly so and safer too.

That's right. Doctors still murder the elderly for their behaviour. The breach the essence of the medical oath. First do no harm.

They do harm not to treat an illness. They knowingly kill the elderly because society has a tool which provides a convenient way to change behaviour.

There are other options than the use of chemical restraint in the community. The Scottish equivalent of the UK's NICE recommends training for carers.

Sadly such innovative thinking didn't happen a decade ago. Thousands have been needlessly killed and thousands more are murdered becaquse society is sick enough to use dangerous chemicals to treat behaviour.

They've been using these drugs on schizophrenics for years.

About Me

We It comes in part from an appreciation that no one can truly sign their own work. Everything is many influences coming together to the one moment where a work exists. The other is a begrudging acceptance that my work was never my own. There is another consciousness or non-corporeal entity that helps and harms me in everything I do. I am not I because of this force or entity. I am "we"
