Thoughts about helping the working life of lawyers using the advances of electronics and computing

A legal computer program

Theres 'grunt' (low level) work done by lawyers which can take a lot of
time but some of the work can be done by a computer program I reckon.

Contracts, for example, are a bit like writing a computer program and
checking for errors before comppiling.

Hmm...maybe not...perhaps I'm thinking of applying division of labour
but thinking there are automated ways to do the bottom tier of work.
Higher tiers of work where the value of a skilled human being are needed
and where computers can't sort stuff out there is still the need for
human input.

That's probably not right. Okay. Here's an example or something. A
seasoned lawyer needs to scan through reams of stuff. What their mind is
going is using training and stuff to allow them to skim past stuff which
is ok and agreeable. Their mind is intepreting the words and checking
against their internal memory of contractual law. Their training means
they can do it fast and accurately. What's most valuable though is being
able to spot mistakes.

This grunt work can also be done by trainee lawyers. as part of their
training. After all, people still need to remain skilled even if
computers and automation can do the work. When they're not sure about
something they ask a seasoned lawyer.

Computer programs could be used to write contracts too. A lot of the
stuff is standard. It is the areas of detail and finesse where the best
lawyers show the power of what a trained human being can do.

Automation has value too. When there's an emergency deadline then
lawyers can still have a life and go party while the machine gets most
of the work done.

Someone must had already thought of this. Just bolt together whateve4r
Autonomy uses to interpret text, marry it with Bailii.org's databse of
cases and any online legal text stuff then use that computer program
that can do research unaided and stuff. Within seconds it can scan
through the stuff which is obviously ok then output what it's not sure
about for the lawyer to sort out the morning after they've partied the
weekend away, a weekend which they would otherwise have to give up to
make sure their company makes money. (They'd also have much better
physical and mental health too).

About Me

We It comes in part from an appreciation that no one can truly sign their own work. Everything is many influences coming together to the one moment where a work exists. The other is a begrudging acceptance that my work was never my own. There is another consciousness or non-corporeal entity that helps and harms me in everything I do. I am not I because of this force or entity. I am "we"
