A mental illness with very high levels of disability. True but again not a complete definition.
A state of being with persistent delusions and hallucinations associated with poor occupational and social outcomes. True but not quite true. The diagnosis is used for many reasons. This aspect is what is traditionally considered schizophrenia but there are other parts to it. Jung, for example, considered schizophrenia to be an extreme of a psychologicval type with hysteria as the diametric opposite.
A diagnosis used to enfore cultural norms. This is true too. Sort of. Its why black men are overdiagnosed in the UK and US. The diagnosis has also been used historically to suppress other types of people.
A scientific construct. No. This isn't true. Bentall's madness explained and Boyle's schizophrenia: a scientific delusion are examples of literature which show it isn't science. Worst is the pseudoscience totally breaks down in clinical practice.
A human type suppressed by the power of psychiatry.
