The voice in your head and assumptions of consciousness

Lots of people have a voice in their head. It's become more acceptable
to admit to this yet half a century ago it was a sign of madness and
something people didn't disclose. People rarely talk about their
experience of consciousness anyway. It's a shame. Language seems bereft
of the words and concepts to help describe the inner world but so adept
at naming things in the outside world.

It means people have never considered the question of the internal
conversation: who are we talking to?
