In a sense a better question is what is the alternative? The problem is
the question of the alternative to what, i.e. what and why is the
antipsychotic the largest class of prescribed narcotic? It is being used
for disorders other than schizophrenia.
Why are psychiatrists drugging their patients to death?
If it is undesirable behaviours these are not the purview of doctors.
They are the purview of the NKVD (Russian secret policy) or the Nazi SS.
I'll argue the extreme case. What to do about a serial rapist who can't
stop. Surely killing them is better? It is probably better to kill them
slowly with antipsychotics rather than incarcerate them. It looks better
too. They can live their 'lives' in the community shambling around like
a zombie. This is far cheaper than designing effective behavioural
modification techniques such that the serial rapist can live a full life
without raping anyone ever.
